The Story so far: Fallout 3

Right...Fallout 3. One of my favourite games, I reinstalled it after upgrading my graphics card and hard drives nearly a month back. For the first week I mainly went to the Fallout 3 Nexus to acquire mods for the game and install them...I then spent nearly another week making my install of Fallout 3 stable to play as it would crash at several instances or bugs would be present that were caused by mods. I am however pleased to say that my Fallout 3 install is stable at this time. I would post a list of mods however I am unsure if it would be of any use to people. If people want me to put up the list of mods I use in load order then I will.

Anyway...the story of Fallout 3 is thus. You play as a person known in the game by other characters as "The Lone Wanderer", but I am getting ahead of myself. The world of Fallout 3 itself is an alternate reality of our own. In this reality history did not pan out as it has with us, the divergence happened sometime after World War II. Technology evolved differently as did fashion which remained in a retro 50's style design ranging from architecture to things like robot design. Technology was focused on harnessing the power of the atom rather than developing supercomputers and miniaturized electronics. As such computers are monochrome displays and clunky, however it also lead to advanced research into laser and plasma weapons as well as the means of atom power to power even small things like vehicles.

Eventually the great war happened between China and USA which led to "The Great War" which resulted in a nuclear bomb being dropped all over the world by all countries. Billions died, while those that heeded the warnings retreated into "Vaults" which secured them and kept them safe. This all occurred in the year 2077. Some hit by the radiation mutated into super mutants, ghouls (think walking corpses) and various other effects while the survivors became barbaric in the attempts to survive although some organisations lived on to try and restore order.

200 years later...the Lone Wanderer leaves Vault 101 after his (your...or..my...in the terms of this blog) father leaves for unknown reasons...

This is where my story begins, starting off outside Vault 101 in a completely alien environment to me, a ravaged wasteland, the remnants of Washington DC in the Capital Wasteland.

Walking over to the small cliff in front of Vault 101 I saw a "Danger, Beware of Cliff" sign with a key on top of it...curiously I took the key, it had looked like it had been left there on purpose. I didn't know by who though. Looking over the cliff I saw a flashing light, following said light lead me to a nearby crate in which I found a spike launcher to go with my 10mm Pistol as well as 100 caps (the currency in Fallout 3) along with a note from a 'friend' telling me where to go.

I didn't take the notes advice initially since I found a note in the nearby destroyed village of Springvale. Underneath the red rocket garage I found a note saying there was something left in a nearby letterbox for me. I followed its instructions to find another key...which unlocked a secret..And very very nice hideout underneath the garage for me to use as a base of operations. I quickly settled in and left.

I took the notes advice and proceeded to Megaton, a settlement nearby built around an unexploded (but still very dangerous..) nuclear bomb.....yeah...I thought that too. After quizzing the town sheriff on my dad I found that the bomb was still active, unfortunately my level was too low to help in anyway, but I would eventually return to Megaton after achieving the right skill level in explosives to disarm the bomb successfully. Getting back on track I went into the local saloon owned by a very disreputable Irishman called "Moriarty". He wanted caps in exchange for information...thankfully..he asked for exactly 100 caps...the exact amount I found in the crate...curious. I paid him of course and got the whereabouts of my father and proceeded after him to a place called "Galaxy News Radio".

After proceeding on my way over the river and through the dark metro stations (Which I might add were infested with feral ghouls..) I eventually met with a Brotherhood of Steel squad, specifically the "Lyons Pride" lead by led by Sentinel Sarah Lyons. After teaming up with her squad to take out super mutants around Galaxy News Radio I finally got to see dad...or..so I thought...he had just left and the DJ, a very nice and charismatic guy called "Three Dog" said that he would help me if I would help him. My task was to go into the old Museum at the DC ruins, take a satellite dish from one of the archaic spacecraft in there and place it atop the Washington Monument. To cut a very long story short I completed this objective. Surprisingly while at both GNR (Galaxy News Radio) and the Washington Monument I found another of those odd crates for me from my 'friend' who told me to go to a northern point on the map.

I returned to Three Dog and got told Dad was going to Rivet City....I went there..Dad had moved on again! But I would not lose hope and I made a quick diversion to acquire another secret underground hideout near Rivet City, a very very nice one I might add. I then proceeded to the location my 'friend' told me to go to. I saw a large portal hanging over the top of a large drop....I took a leap of faith and found me transported to a secret base...with a time machine....apparently...from what I can ascertain...the future was very different, and me...from the future had sent help to me in order to change the past for the better..so..yay me!

Anyway...I eventually found Dad in a secret vault located under Casey Smiths Garage; I believe it was Vault 112. He was stuck in a simulation called "Tranquillity Lane" where a very sadistic scientist caused pain to the residence for his own amusement. Again..long story short..I rescued dad and we headed to Rivet City to talk to Doctor Li about "Project Purity" a project Dad was a part of before he entered the Vault with me as a baby. The goal was to purify the basin in front of the Jefferson Memorial to be irradiated and pure allowing free, drinkable water to everyone. We enlisted the help of the Doctor and we have just proceeded over to the Jefferson Memorial to restart the project...that’s where I am..and that is where my next blog entry will continue from.

The Adventure Begins!

Hello fellow bloggers and gamers alike.

First I will open with this introductory post. I am Ebak, a games design student in that magical world (hah) we call 'reality'. Naturally as you would assume, since I am studying computer games design...I like video games...and playing video games. I decided after much humming and haring to open this little blog spot. Whether I can be bothered to post on it I have no clue, but I decided to do it just because I felt like it.

The purpose of this blog is the documentation of a gamer’s life through games. What that basically means is I will be posting my experiences in games, mainly open world / sandbox games, leaning towards the RPG category. Currently I have started to take pictures of my Fallout 3 gaming experience. Obviously I only just started to do that and have already made some progress....not alot of progress..but some progress through said game, but I'm going to do this anyway quickly documenting the experiences I can recall from memory up to the point I am in Fallout 3, that will be my second entry posted shortly after this one.
